Most bets lead to someone shaving their head, losing money, or getting a tattoo. For CCS team rider, Ryan Lay, a simple bet to not eat meat for three weeks was the first step in shifting his perception on eating animals, a shift that eventually lead him to help design an all vegan skate shoe. In the etnies video that accompanies the marketing for the all vegan Jameson HT inspired by Ryan Lay, Ryan says after the bet was over, he thought “That was pretty easy. I guess I could just keep doing this.”
Eight years later and Ryan is still committed to not eating meat and not pushing his beliefs on others. Instead, he is more focused on enjoying what he sees as a small compromise in his lifestyle.
The etnies Jameson HT are an all vegan high top skate shoe. The faux-vulc construction mimics the boardfeel you’d get from a vulcanized construction without giving up the durability and support of a cupsole. This is achieved through a egg-crate midsole construction. The tread is the etnies’ team favorite, Geo-Hex, and the upper is made of an animal friendly Microfiber Canvas. Branding and design inspiration came from the 90’s skate shoe brand, Sheep. Every shoe Sheep made was vegan and its team consisted of the likes of Ed Templeton and Brian Anderson back in 1996. Sadly, Sheep shoes - an affiliate of sole technologies, the overarching brand that distributes etnies, eS, and Emerica - was ahead of its time, and importing vegan materials proved too costly at the time and the brand was dissolved in 1997.
You can expect to see the etnies Jameson HT live on CCS by May 1, 2017, but in the mean time shop all etnies Jameson available here.
